La Rabida Children’s Hospital is hiring an Executive Director of Finance for the finance department in Chicago, IL.

Job Summary:

The Executive Director of Finance will work collaboratively with the Vice President of Finance and closely with the Executive Leadership team. Direct and implement all aspects of financial strategy and activities for the purpose of leading the Hospital toward the achievement of its mission, annual goals, objectives, and Core Values. Collaborate with the Hospital Leadership team to develop and implement short and long-term strategic, operational, and financial plans for their respective departments.

Essential Executive Director of Finance Functions:

  1. Lead the Finance and Patient Financial Services teams, fostering a culture of accountability, excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  2. Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, financial institutions, key suppliers, and referring hospital partners.
  3. Responsible for the effective development and execution of fiscal strategy, leading the budgeting process for operating and capital budgets, revenue and expense management.
  4. Ensure that the organization’s financial systems are efficient, reliable, user-friendly, and cost-effective.
  5. Create new and improved systems and processes that maximize current technological resources to meet operational and business needs.
  6. Ensure the integrity and internal financial controls for the hospital’s accounting process are current, effectively documented, and well understood by the Finance team staff and Hospital leadership.
  7. Oversee the preparation of monthly, annual, and ad hoc financial statements and reports and critical analyses of performance across all hospital service areas.
  8. Direct operations for the Hospital's revenue cycle, including billing, denial, collections, and reimbursement processes, to ensure the Hospital is maximizing its Patient Care Revenue.
  9. Analyze and interpret financial information and assess operational plans, forecasts, and potential risks; evaluate alternative courses of action.
  10. Recommend strategies and tactics to improve performance.
  11. Accountable for all restricted funding, including assuring compliance with sponsor requirements, accounting, reporting, and grants management.
  12. The position supervises the development of the quarterly reporting for the La Rabida Board Audit and Board Finance committee meetings and co-presents the information at each meeting.
  13. Responsible for ensuring timely, accurate, and proper bi-weekly payroll preparation and processing, including the remittance of taxes, regulatory reporting, and garnishments.
  14. Supervise the preparation of all annual external audits and tax filings, and cost report activities.
  15. Monitor major project expenditures and provide reports to enable reporting to funding agencies.
  16. Complete all required regulatory agency surveys, questionnaires, and report filings, such as: American Hospital Association (AHA), Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Children’s Hospital Association, Community Health Needs Assessment, and the Children’s Hospital Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) reports.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

What we need from you:

Education: A Degree in accounting, business, or an equivalent education experience is required. An advanced degree in finance, health care administration, or a related field is a plus.

Related Work Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible leadership/supervisory experience. Extensive accounting experience in for-profit and non-profit organizations, preferably within the healthcare industry. Experience with Workday, Epic, or Stratajazz is a plus.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and as a team to solve problems and raise issues and drive continuous improvement. Attention to detail and ability to work accurately under tight deadlines. Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills; able to take complex information and present it in a clear and concise manner. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Must be able to articulate issues in a precise, substantive manner.

Compensation Information:

Pay Range: $150 - $225k.
