Job Description

This position will be based at our Hampton Farms location in Franklin, VA.

Job Overview:

The EHS Coordinator will assist the Director of Safety-Food Group and the Director of Safety-Ag Group in maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations. This role assists in implementing safety programs, conducting inspections, maintaining records, and promoting a culture of safety in the workplace – covering all food plants and ag locations from Severn, NC north. The EHS Coordinator will work closely with various departments to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in Compliance Monitoring:
  • Support the implementation and enforcement of safety programs, policies, and procedures to comply with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits across the facilities to identify potential hazards, unsafe behaviors, and regulatory non-compliance.
  • Help prepare and submit required regulatory reports, such as OSHA logs, hazardous materials inventories, and environmental permits.
  • Recordkeeping and Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of safety programs, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Assist in managing the company’s safety and environmental training database, ensuring all employees have up-to-date certifications.
  • Incident Reporting and Investigation:
  • Assist in the investigation of workplace accidents, injuries, and near misses. Document findings and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare incident reports and help track corrective actions to closure.
  • Safety Training and Awareness:
  • Assist in developing training programs and corporate safety training requirements.
  • Assist with Risk Assessments:
  • Support EHS team in conducting risk assessments for tasks, machinery, or processes that may pose a danger to employees.
  • Help identify preventive or corrective measures to minimize or eliminate potential risks.
  • Emergency Preparedness:
  • Assist in maintaining and updating emergency response plans.
  • Environmental Responsibilities:
  • Assist in environmental inspections and audits, ensuring adherence to environmental permits and programs.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a safety or environmental compliance role preferred, but entry-level candidates with relevant coursework or internships will be considered.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety and environmental regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Certification:

  • Safety-related certifications (e.g., OSHA 10-hour/30-hour, CPR/First Aid) are a plus but not required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is typically performed in an office environment, with frequent visits to production areas, warehouses, and other work environments that may include exposure to noise, heat, chemicals, and other environmental conditions.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • May require standing, walking, or conducting inspections in confined spaces for extended periods.
