Part time 1099 Independent Contractor
We seek a compassionate and qualified Remote Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to deliver specialized virtual instruction to K12 students across New Mexico. Duties include developing and implementing IEP-based lessons, collaborating with families and educators, using assistive hearing technologies, and monitoring student progress through virtual platforms.
Instruction & Curriculum Delivery : Design and deliver individualized virtual lessons targeting language, literacy, and communication skills per students IEPs.
IEP Participation & Collaboration : Represent the DHH specialist in IEP meetings and collaborate with parents, general education staff, therapists, and interpreters.
Assessment & Progress Tracking : Conduct assessments, adjust instruction as needed, and document student outcomes progress.
Assistive Technology & Device Support : Guide the use of hearing technologies including hearing aids, cochlear implants, real time captioning, and captioning tools.
Consultation & Training : Provide instructional strategies and training to classroom teachers and families to improve communication access and inclusion.
Compliance & Documentation : Maintain accurate records of services, progress, communications, and compliance with state and federal special education guidelines.
Education : Bachelors degree in Deaf Education, Special Education with DHH specialization, or a related field; Masters degree preferred.
Certification : Valid New Mexico teaching license endorsed for Deaf and Hard of Hearing / DHH.
Experience : Minimum of 12 years?of professional experience working with DHH students; virtual teaching experience preferred.
Language Skills : ASL fluency preferred or strong proficiency in language modalities appropriate to student needs.
Technical Proficiency : Familiarity with virtual teaching platforms, remote learning tools, and assistive hearing/captioning technologies.
Professional Skills : Strong written and verbal communication, organization, self-direction, and collaboration in a remote environment.
Experience in multiple communication modalities (ASL, spoken language, total communication).
Background in behavior support, transition planning, or life skills for DHH students.
Experience working with students with cochlear implants or complex disabilities.
